Fanuc spindle alarm b0 means an error occurred in the communication between amplifiers — the interconnection linking Spindle Amplifier, Servo Amplifiers and Power Supply along the rack. This is the CXA2A/CXA2B daisy chain: the short jumper cables that carry 24 V control power and the inter-unit signals from module to module. When that chain breaks, the units cannot coordinate and b0 stops the show.

Fanuc's checklist — immediately after CNC power-on

  1. Connector coupling: CXA2A and CXA2B must be coupled — every unit's CXA2A (in) connects to its neighbour's CXA2B (out) along the rack. A missing or half-seated jumper — the classic after an amplifier was replaced and one small connector forgotten — is cause number one. Reseat every CXA2 jumper from the PSM outward.
  2. Defective cable: check the connection pin numbers against the connection manual (these small connectors can be mis-pinned on field-made cables); correct or replace the cable. Heat-darkened housings and brittle wires at the crimps — these jumpers run warm for decades — mean replacement, not repair.
  3. A unit is defective: spindle amplifier, servo amplifier or power supply — the interface circuit on one module's board. Split it by moving along the chain: units before the break communicate, units after do not; the module at the boundary (or its upstream partner) is the suspect. Board-level repair or exchange.
Tip: b0 right after ANY amplifier replacement → the forgotten CXA2 jumper, almost every time — check it before anything else. And because this chain also carries control power, b0 often travels with control-power symptoms (AL-10, SVM blinking dash) — seeing both together doubles the evidence against the jumpers.
