Fanuc spindle alarm d3 means serial data from the sensor was received by the Spindle Amplifier but detected as destroyed by noise — the link works, the data arrives corrupted. Unlike d2 (link dead), d3 is a signal-quality alarm, and Fanuc's single instruction points at the one thing that protects a digital sensor link:

Fanuc's check — the cable's shielding

Check the shielding of the cable between the serial sensor and the amplifier, per the ‘Detectors’ section of B-65282EN:

  1. Shield continuity end to end — a shield cut during a previous repair, or never terminated, turns the cable into an antenna.
  2. Correct termination — grounded via the specified clamp/pin arrangement, not a long pigtail to a convenient screw.
  3. Routing: the standing rule — separated from servo/spindle motor power leads; crossings at 90° where unavoidable. A sensor cable freshly re-loomed against a power lead after maintenance is the classic d3 origin.
  4. Cabinet environment: if d3 correlates with specific events (a contactor, a welder nearby, one axis's rapids), that source and this cable have a coupling path — fix the routing or the source's suppression.
Tip: Correlation is the whole diagnosis for d3: note WHAT the machine was doing at each occurrence. Random-but-frequent → shield/termination. Event-correlated → coupling from that source. And if d3 appears with d4 mixed in, treat it as one noise problem — the same shielding work clears both.
