Your Fanuc control suddenly shows PS5523 “CERTIFICATION WILL EXPIRE” — or worse, PS5524 “CERTIFICATION EXPIRED” and the machine refuses to run in AUTO/MEM mode. Production stops, and the message gives no clue what to do. Here is what these alarms actually are and how they are removed.
What PS5523 / PS5524 mean
These are not machine faults. They come from Fanuc's machine management / lease-lock (certification) function, which machine-tool builders and financiers activate to lock a CNC after a set date — typically used on financed or imported machines. The control counts down to an expiry date:
| PS5523 | Warning — the certification date is approaching. The machine still runs, but the alarm appears at every power-up. |
| PS5524 | The date has passed — the control locks and cycle start is inhibited until a new certification (password) code is entered. |
Why it appears on YOUR machine
- Imported used machines (Japan/Taiwan/China) often arrive with the lock still armed — the original builder set it and nobody cleared it before export. This is the most common case in India.
- Financed machines — the supplier locks stages until payments complete.
- Occasionally a battery/SRAM issue or date change trips the countdown unexpectedly.
What NOT to do
- Don't keep changing the CNC date backwards — newer controls detect it, and you corrupt time-stamped data (tool life, maintenance counters).
- Don't clear SRAM hoping the alarm goes — you'll lose parameters, offsets and ladder, and the lock remains.
- Don't buy "unlock passwords" from unknown online sellers — the code is specific to your control's data; generic codes don't work and some sellers ask for money upfront and vanish.
How the lock is legitimately removed
- If the machine is financed and payments are pending — the right route is your supplier: they hold the stage passwords. The lock exists to protect that agreement.
- If the machine is fully yours (paid off, or an imported used machine you own outright) — the certification function can be cleared or disabled at the control so the alarm never returns. This involves reading the machine-management data from your specific control and generating the matching release — it is machine-specific, not a universal code.
