Description
The Fanuc A98L-0004-0149 is the external battery box (battery case) that holds the backup power supply for the absolute pulse coders on Fanuc servo systems. Mounted outside the servo amplifier or control cabinet, it keeps the absolute position data of the axis motors alive when the machine is powered off, so the machine does not lose its reference position and need re-zeroing at every start-up. Available at JJ Automation new and as tested used / refurbished units, 100% checked before dispatch.
Battery requirement
The box takes 4 x D-cell (LR20) 1.5 V alkaline batteries connected in series for a combined 6 V output. Batteries are supplied separately and are not included with the box. Replace the cells with the machine power ON so the pulse coder data is not lost during the change.
When to replace
Replace the box when the battery holder contacts are corroded or broken, the lid or latch is damaged, the cable or connector is cut, or when a battery low / APC alarm (e.g. 306, 307, DS0306) keeps returning after fresh cells have been fitted. A cracked case can let coolant or chips reach the cells and cause intermittent position loss.
