Description

📌 What the MHE90K Encoder Is

The MHE90K is a high-resolution spindle-side C-axis position detector (encoder) used in CNC systems for precise contouring control with orientation, typically with Mitsubishi CNC and spindle drives. It’s designed for accurate detection of spindle angular position and speed, enabling advanced functions like C-axis machining and synchronization.

🧱 Key Features

  • High-resolution output:
The detector outputs multiple signals, including very fine pulse counts:

    • A/B phases: 1024 pulses/rev

    • C/D phases: 90,000 pulses/rev

    • E/F phase (SIN wave): 180 waves/rev

    • Z, X, Y phases: 1 pulse/rev each — useful for referencing and indexing.

  • Built-in SIN output:
Provides SIN wave signal output equivalent to PLG signal format, making it usable with built-in motors and advanced spindle feedback interfaces.

  • Ring-type sensor design:
The ring-type construction eliminates the need for manual gap adjustment between the sensor and the scale — simplifying installation and setup.

  • Mechanical specs:

    • Inner diameter options vary by model (e.g., Ø70 mm, Ø80 mm, Ø95 mm, Ø110 mm, Ø140 mm).

    • Maximum rotational speeds range from about 3000 r/min to 6000 r/min, depending on the specific variant.

    • Operating range: 0 °C to 70 °C (with A/D converter and pre-amp section rated up to 55 °C).

    • Robust against vibration/impact typical in machine tool environments.

🔧 Typical Use & Application

  • C-Axis Control & Orientation:
The MHE90K enables precise C-axis feedback for contouring around the spindle axis and accurate orientation for machining (e.g., drilling, milling features at specific angular positions).

  • Integration with CNC Drive Systems:
It’s used as an optional C-axis detector in Mitsubishi CNC/spindle drive systems (e.g., MDS-C1 series), providing high-resolution encoder signals that the controller uses for motion control and synchronized operations.
